Previously, to insert hyperlinks to digital media in books, it was necessary to print barcodes or similar, which could compromise the design of the book and was not applicable to already published works. In this research, we have successfully developed a method to uniquely identify the shooting location (which book and which page) from a million pages, simply by using a smartphone to photograph the page. This is achieved by using strings of text perpendicular to the reading direction as search keys. As a result, we have enabled the addition of hyperlinks to digital media in books without any alteration to the books themselves.
